Lago Maggiore

The Lago Maggiore, with its incredibly clear waters, offers striking views of the natural landscapes, mountains, parks, botanic gardens, and historical islands.

The mountains, only 50 km away, surround the lake basin: the Alps and the Monte Rosa overlook the landscape with their great height of over 4000 metres. All around the lake, beautiful antique towns hedge in a precious heritage of legends and culture.

Fascinating excursions can lead you to discover all the valleys near the Lago Maggiore: the Val Formazza, with its typical Cascata del Toce (Toce Waterfall); the Val Vigezzo, called "Painters Valley"; the Valle Anzasca, that ends with the antique walser town of Macugnana and the Valle Antrona, dispersed with beautiful little Alpen Lakes.

In the area of Alto Lago Maggiore, you can also visit the Val Grande National Park, the most extensive wild area in central Europe.

Coasting the lake, that has become famous because of the Isole Borromee in the gulf of Stresa, you can find numerous interesting places, like the beautiful nineteenth and twentieth century villas and gardens along the lake banks. Stresa and Verbania are worth a visit to see the Borromeo gardens, Villa Taranto and Villa San Remigio.
